The Ruddy Padre
“Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” Psalm 27:14.
Have you ever woken up with a heart heavy with pain? No, I don’t mean that you’re having a heart attack, but having a heart burdened with a heaviness. That was my experience just recently. It is nothing new; we all know such times...many times.
So I woke up on this recent morning, greeted with confronting feelings and thoughts from 2 different fronts.
- My heart was reeling and needed healing from something that I had to do the day before; something that challenged me and felt a bit like a kick in the guts, as well as something that frustrated me.
- My heart, already exhausted and faint as it was from the previous day’s events, had to stand up again on this day to face up to and tackle another unpleasant task and situation.
My mind drifts to Diego from the movie Ice Age; “Alright! Who’s up for round 2?!” Well, not me, that’s for sure. But too bad; Round 2 is coming whether you are ready or not!
Almost in an act of desperation, I reached across to my bed stand and grabbed my Bible. I began to read, but simply found myself reading in a manner of justifying my self pity.
But then, out of the blue, our youngest (Jeremy) came into our room and plopped himself next to me with his own bible reading. It wasn’t what I expected, but it turned out to be what I had been hoping and longing for. He had one simple verse. “Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” Psalm 27:14.
WHAT?! Where did he drag that from!? Immediately I grabbed hold of it! What did I need that day? For my heart to be healed, strengthened, and built up with courage! But how? That verse gave me one simple instruction. In fact, it gave it to me twice, as though God wanted me to cop it with both barrels. How do I let my heart take courage? That encouragement was within the brackets; Wait for the LORD! Wait for the LORD!
Is your heart weighed down and heavy today due to yesterday’s events, and tomorrow’s approaching duties? “Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” Psalm 27:14. Thanks Jeremy. Thank You God!
